It is caused by older Windows 95 or 98 computers not having certain components installed that are required by
FastFind to run properly.
To download the missing files go to the following web link:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=c57692e9-dde7-4a60-b586-5d4fd6794db6&DisplayLang=en
After installing the above, re-install FastFind and see if it runs.
If it does not, you may be missing the DCOM files which can be downloaded by going to the following web link:

The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications.
Choose 'Close' to terminate the application.
This error is due to corrupted or missing system files needed to install or
start an MS-DOS or 16-bit Windows-based program in Windows 2000 or XP.

Note: the Microsoft document states to
"Insert the CD into the CD drive or DVD drive"
The CD-ROM that Microsoft is referring to is the Windows System CD-ROM that came with the computer
(and not the Fastfind CD-ROM).

This error is due to the Fastfind not recognizing the international date format.
The fix requires a replacement Fastfind CD-ROM 87-248-05i.

This error is often caused by uninstalling an unrelated program (ie. Microsoft Office).
To resolve it, use Windows Explorer to go to the folder:
c:\program files\common files\microsoft shared\DAO
and delete the following two files:
DAO350.DLL
DAO360.DLL
Then reinstall Fastfind. This will reinstall and reregister these two files.
